ABOUT

John Buttigieg is from Cairns & The Tablelands in Far North Queensland, Australia and has been playing guitar since the age of 10.

After being interested in guitar and music for many years, John began guitar lessons at his school, St Andrews Catholic College with his guitar teacher, Peter Drazic.

Discovering that guitar was his passion, he spent his time growing up finding new unique ways of playing such a diverse instrument.

Peter Drazic was aware of this and began working together with John in finding these styles of guitar playing.

John began playing on his lap or using the guitar as percussion and experimenting with a lot of hammer-on and pull-off styles of guitar playing which is commonly known as fingerstyle guitar.

Since 2009, John began busking in Cairns and since 2013, began performing at local venues around the city.

When going to gigs, events and performances, John would carry his 6-string guitar and 12-string guitar side-by-side in each hand. People would commonly joke and ask if he is going to play both at the same time. After some time, he decided to challenge himself to learn how do this and figured out the technique based on previous practice of learning the guitar.

John also studied a Bachelor of Information Technology and works in Information Technology.

John is also passionate about playing tennis and began learning how to play the sport at Trinity Beach Tennis Club in July 2018 and continued to pursue the sport in the capital city of Queensland, Brisbane from September 2020 and travels around to participate in tennis tournaments in Australia and Europe.
